In the little Paris of Platanias

In the small village of Syrili Platanias, recently called the Little Paris of the Municipality of Platanias, (due to the fact that it has two rivers and is surrounded by greenery) we restored two old historic houses with a lot of love and care in the Mavrogenis estate. Their historical route is lost in the previous 200 years when it is estimated that they were built. These houses for the last 50 years were used as stables and storage areas for animal feed and agricultural supplies.

The neighborhood  is called Kapetania, as it was once home to Captain  Manolis Mavrogenis, leader of the 1858 uprising against the Ottomans. Historically, this event is recorded as the “Mavrogenis Movement” or the “Straw Rebellion,” as it was triggered by the introduction of a tax imposed according to the quantity of straw production.

On the walls of the houses there are still battlements and burnt beams from the fires that tried to burn them in 1897.

Today, the village is located a short distance from the sea, 3.5 kilometers, and offers absolute tranquility for someone who wants to enjoy nature, hiking, and the authentic flavors of Crete.

Nuts from the privately-owned wood-fired oven, free-range chickens from the farm, fruits authentic to the Cretan land, agricultural pursuits, working with animals, organic wine from a privately-owned vineyard, and of course tsikoudia of our production.

All this gives a different life experience than anything else experienced by each of the visitors. Beautiful accommodation will be easily found anywhere.
